Being Late

Why is it that so many people in today’s society are always willing to be late? In high school, when people showed up to events such as football games or dances, they wanted to be noticed so they would show up “fashionably late”. These people wanted to be the center of attention in everything they did. Nowadays, it has become the norm for people to purposely be late. (Now I am saying those who purposely be late because there are people with kids, disabilities and other things that cause them to be late sometimes). During some meetings, people have come in late announcing their tardiness and present a reason that they were late to make others believe that their time was less important. Why has society accepted the “fashionably late” symbol?

In our Christian walk, is it okay to be late? If you are continuing to live in sin, purposely living in sin, and choose to put off your walk with Christ, do you think that postponing your spiritual walk is OK? If you were to die today or Jesus was to come back today, do you think he would look at you and say “You know, since you aren’t ready, I’ll come let you come on up when you get the chance?” Your company or other place of work may run on a flexible time but God does not. We don’t have the option to pick when it’s our time to go. We won’t be able to tell God to come back later and grab us, or swing back through on his way back up to Heaven. Our eternal time clock is controlled by God, not by us.

The amazing thing about God is that He is a forgiving God and if you are living your life in sin, you can repent of your sins (Acts 17:30-31) and confess that Jesus is the Christ (Matthew 10:32) and be baptized (Mark 16:16). You can live your life in Christ. It is not too late for you to do this now but you must do it before it is too late.

The time is now.. Tomorrow is not promised.
