Last night, we started preparing for our Thanksgiving dinner with my side of the family. We do it early each year and this year especially since my parents moved to Florida. We started last night because we knew that we had to get things taken care of before the dinner started and didn’t want to wait until the last minute. We don’t wait until the last minute in case something comes up and we do not get the chance to finish it. A Thanksgiving meal preparation takes a lot. You have to get your recipes out, go to the grocery and get the ingredients, and then start the preparation that can take a long time to complete.
Now that all of the preparation work is done, we are ready to start cooking, serve the food, and eat it all! We make sure that we cook enough food to feed everyone plus anyone that may show up unexpectedly. Gathering with our family at the table each year is a blessing for us and our kids.
Life works the same way as preparing for a dinner like Thanksgiving. We have the ultimate cookbook that we can use to help us gather all of the ingredients that we need to reach our end goal. The Bible specifically lays out all of the steps that you must complete in order to have eternal life with our God. We work hard to follow the guide as closely as possible, to not miss a step, and get it right.
Our whole life we are to be preparing for eternal life. Like our turkey dinner preparations last night, we cannot wait until the last minute to start trying to get to Heaven. If we do, we may be too late before we are ready. A tragic event may stall us and keep us from reaching our goal.
A lot of people have waited and missed out on their opportunity to spend the rest of their life with Christ in Heaven. Luckily for those of us that are still on the earth, we have the ability to start now, start fresh, and get things right before it is too late.
