Black Friday: Are you prepared?

How many of you are still stuffed from all of the food you ate yesterday? We started off eating and eleven and didn’t finish until about nine last night. I think we were all overloaded with turkey, dressing, and desserts.

How many of you have not been to sleep yet? Growing up, Black Friday shopping was not a big part of my families Thanksgiving tradition. Well, let me rephrase that, it was not part of mine. My Black Friday was hanging out in the woods, hunting. No one around to bother me.

After I got married, I adopted the Black Friday rush tradition. To me, it is fun just going to watch the people argue over the towels that are $3 instead of $10. The deals are great and people can accomplish a lot of Christmas shopping in this one busy, over-crowded, hectic, but fun day.

It is crazy at the amounts people will go to in order to save money and purchase a lot. People have been trampled, injured, and even killed on Black Friday just to save a couple of extra dollars. The adrenaline rush to feel like you are winning during this one day of each year. From the time the Black Friday sales come out until the end of the sale, that is all that is people’s mind. The endless planning for this one long day.

In our spiritual life, do we do the same thing? Black Friday is an important event in many people’s lives but it has no comparison to what Judgement Day will be like. If we are faithful Christians, we will be much more excited about eternity than we would be anything else.

Like our Black Friday ads, we should be preparing for our life in Heaven after we are done here on earth. We have a book that is provided by God that has everything we need in it in order to get to Heaven. We have the ability each and every day to dig into His Word and grow closer to him. We don’t have to wait for the one day a year. We have every day of the year. The only thing different is that we don’t know when Christ will come back for us so we need to be prepared now, not later.

If you are not prepared for eternity like you are Black Friday, the best news is that God is waiting for you. He has not given up on you but it is up to you. Repent and follow the commands of Christ and you will be on your way to a life of eternity as well.

God is Good!

Matthew 24:44 Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
