Have you ever built a home? During the very first stages of the process, you pick the lot that you want to build on. You make sure that the place is the perfect spot to build. After you find that perfect spot, the builders begin your home. They start with the foundation.
The foundation is a very important part of the house. If your foundation is weak, you will have a house that is unstable. If you have a foundation that is strong, your entire house will be more solid and last a lot longer.
Matthew 7:24-27 is familiar to us all. During Vacation Bible School and other youth events as kids, we all sang the song about the wise man who built his house on the rock. His house stood firm when it was faced with the storm. The foolish man built his house on the sand and when it began to rain, the house fell.
We need to analyze our life as well and compare it to the builders in Matthew. What is the foundation of your family like? Is it built on a solid foundation or an unstable foundation?
Our real foundation is usually hidden. When you look at our lives from the outside, it all looks the same. The real foundation is shown when storms of life try to take us down. If we are weak in our faith, it will be easy to tear us down. If we are strong in our faith, it will be hard to break us down.
We are faced with storms of life quite often. Sometimes the storm may strike us in the form of an unexpected layoff at work. We see people hit rock bottom when they are let go from their jobs. Most of these people have a weak foundation and little faith in God’s plan. With a solid foundation, the person would have bounced back quickly and put their trust in God to guide them on their next career path.
There are many different examples of why people collapse when they are faced with a storm of life. When these pressures are placed upon us, we need to remember that a foundation with Christ can guide us down a better road than we had before. We have all heard the phrase, “what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.” That is true because God will never give you something that you cannot handle and when you overcome the obstacle, you are then equipped to handle that situation in the future and help others overcome it as well.
What is your foundation like? Is it a solid foundation built on Christ? Is it a foundation that is unstable and could use rebuilt so it will withstand the storms the world puts on you?
If your foundation is weak and needs to be rebuilt, let us help you out. It can be hard to rebuild on your own and there are brothers and sisters in Christ that would love to be there for you. We can pray with you and for you but it is up to you to make that change.
