Does God Still Speak Directly To Us?

Wouldn’t it be awesome if God spoke to us as He did in the Bible? How great would it be if you needed an answer to something right then and God would immediately answer us?  All we would have to do is look up and the skies and say “God, I need you real quick!”. Maybe it would be a phone call or a text message but it would be amazing if we could.

There are many examples in the Bible of God speaking directly to different people. Genesis 4:6, God speaks to Cain about his anger. Staying in Genesis, one of the most popular events of the Bible, is when God spoke to Noah about the flood that was coming. There are many more occasions in the Old Testament that God speaks directly to individuals. Then, God speaks to those at Jesus’s baptism. Matthew 3:17, the heavens opened up and God spoke down letting everyone know that He was well pleased with Jesus.

How cool would it be if God still spoke directly to us!?

Or would it not be cool! Seriously though, what if God did speak directly to us, would you even want him to? Would you still do the things that you do? For instance, it is Sunday and you aren’t at church. Instead, you are at a baseball tournament with your child. Suddenly, the heavens opened and God spoke down to you and said, (your name), why did you choose baseball over me?” Just a simple question from God. How would you react? Or, since God was speaking to us, would you not have put yourself in that situation?

I think that the world would be different if God spoke directly to us. There would be more believers and people would actually think twice about what they were doing. The sad part about it is that God, although He doesn’t speak directly to us as He did in the Bible, He is always with us and sees everything we do anyway. Instead, He just watches you. He watches you while you are at work, a baseball tournament instead of worship, or at the bars on the weekends. He sits by you at all of those places. Do you think He is proud?

God still speaks to us through scripture. The scriptures are inspired words of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17). The Word of God gives us exactly what we need to successfully live our life on earth. His plan is laid out perfectly and if we obey His commands, we will be able to spend eternity in heaven with Him. Every word of God is flawless (Proverbs 30:5). If you have something on your mind and need to ask God, there is a direct line to Him through prayer. Guidance is available in the Bible. There are verses for every type of situation you can go through in life.

Maybe it is time for us to go back to the old saying of “What would Jesus do?” or we could even ask “If God spoke to me now, what would he say?” before we do things that we do.

Would your actions make God disappointed in you or would He be well pleased with you as He is Jesus? God is a forgiving God so if you need to repent and get your life back with Him, there is no better time than now. We can pray for you and with you but you have to make that step.

God is Good…
