An important part of your vehicle is the rearview mirror. If you didn’t have one, it would be difficult to drive in the Nashville traffic that a lot of us travel in each day. You wouldn’t be able to see people coming up behind you. When you are using reverse, you wouldn’t be able to use that mirror to help guide you from hitting something directly behind you. A lot of the time, when you look in your rearview mirror, you are looking at things that have past.
There are many people who live their life looking in the rearview mirror. They see what has already passed them instead of focusing on what is coming up ahead of them. It seems that they do not want to continue on because their past haunts them.
Philippians 3:13 tells us to forget what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead. Proverbs 4:25 also informs us of the importance of looking forward.
Many people have a past that is not up to par. It doesn’t meet the standards to Christ wanted them to have. It is hard for them to get over their past and they live in fear that their past will come back. It is hard but our focus needs to be on what we can do in the present and the future and not what we have already done.
No matter how horrible your past is, God will forgive you and completely forget it. He will never bring it up to you at judgement day if you truly repent and follow Him. If you are stuck in your past and it is hindering your ability to live a life with Christ now and try to bring others to Him, talk to God and ask Him to help you. Ask Him to place people in your life that can help you through your tough time.
If you know someone who is like this, pray for them. Invite them to worship with you and invite them to functions that involve brothers and sisters in Christ. Be the light that helps them through their dark times.
God is good…
